Bass Guitar Amps
Bass guitar amps are intended specifically for use with
a bass guitar. They are to be used in conjunction primarily with an electric bass guitar. Although some stand up
models can be amplified. One of the biggest differences between a bass amp and a guitar amp is that the speaker are
generally more heavy duty. The cabinet is constructed sturdier to withstand the constant "thumping" produced by the
bass guitar.
Just as with a guitar amp, there are some things that
need to be considered when researching bass guitar amps. There are tube models and there are solid state models. A
tube amp is going to the most expensive, but, at the same time it's going to give you the best sound. A solid state
amp will probably suffice if you're looking for a high powered amp that won't cost you an arm and a leg. Plus,
today's solid state amps are designed to eliminate distortion up to their highest settings.
Depending on your playing needs, you're going to have to
decide the correct type of amp to use. If you're just playing around at home or playing a few get togethers with
other musician's, you can get by with an all in one unit. If you're playing for a living, you'd be better off with
a high gain unit. Bass guitar amps with a closed back will do the job for most bass players, unless you're playing
large venues.
Today's bass guitar amps are designed and constructed
with superior quality. You can purchase a basic amp that has all the tone and effects you'll ever need. This amp
can be used for practicing and will do the job if you plan on doing any recording. These bass amplifiers can rival
the effect of an electric guitar amplifier. Technology has come a long way. The tone that can be achieved with
these amps is simply amazing.
When it comes to speaker size, bigger is better doesn't
hold true with today's modern bass guitar amps. The cabinets are constructed to handle low frequency response. You
don't need to get caught up in how big the speaker is. Cabinet design is deemed more important these days than how
big the speaker is. With that being said, however, because of the quality put into these amps, you can achieve
a great sound with a big speaker.
While you're shopping around, you'll probably notice
that there aren't as many bass practice amps. Manufacturers have discovered that most bass players would prefer to
invest in just one good amp to handle all duties. As mentioned earlier, today's bass guitar amps are constructed
with such quality and detail, that you just about can't go wrong with any model you choose. As with anything, it's
all going to boil down to what you like and what sound you're looking for.
